Frederick M. Dolan is Professor of Rhetoric, Emeritus, at the University of California, Berkeley. He was born and raised in Southern California, where he graduated from Oakmont School and the University of California, Irvine. In 1979 he moved from California to New York City, and in 1980 he began graduate school at Princeton University. He moved to Paris to conduct research in 1983, married, became a father, and completed his dissertation and moved with his family back to Southern California in 1987. He began teaching at Berkeley in 1988 and has lived in the Bay Area ever since.
