Terence Pettigrew has been a professional writer, broadcaster and college lecturer for more than fifty years. A one-time regular moviegoer, he has a special affection for films of the past.
As well as Bogey's Movie Book, a detailed study of the films of Humphrey Bogart, he wrote an acclaimed biography of Trevor Howard, which was serialised in the Daily Mail. His other published books on the cinema include British Film, British Film Character Actors and Raising Hell.
He has written about films for The Sunday Times, Sunday Mail, Daily Telegraph, Photoplay, Films & Filming, Radio Times and dozens of glossy magazines. He has given many TV and radio interviews, eg, BBC's Pebble Mill At One and Nationwide, and taken part in programmes hosted by Pete Murray, Bob Holness, Desmond Wilcox, John Dunn, Nick Ferrari and others.
Among the many documentaries he has written and presented on BBC Radio are You're Tearing Me Apart, I Had The Misery Thursday, Caught In The Draft, Nobody Cried When the Trains Pulled Out, Bogart Man and Myth, and the six-part series Screen Partners for the BBC World Service.
Four collections of his narrative poetry have been published by Bredline Books under the titles Brotherly Sisters, Love and Other Weaponry, Gaius and the Lady, and Darling Josie. A fifth poetry collection, titled In the Company of Champions, due to be published in 2015, will include the 10,000-word poem Pritchett's Mountain.
