Bob Shanks

Bob Shanks grew up in Northeast Tennessee. He served aboard a destroyer in the U.S. Navy and worked two years as a flight attendant prior to earning B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Tennessee. He was employed in human resources for over thirty years.

He began fly fishing in East Tennessee as a teenager. Since retirement, he has enjoyed fly fishing in the Northwest and has spent twenty-two summers in Southwest Montana chasing wild trout in blue ribbon streams. He added stream number sixty-four to his list in 2012.

His recently published book Around The Next Bend: Adventures in Fly Fishing is a memoir covering a period of sixty years. It includes anecdotes, musings, and a chapter on "how-to."

He is currently completing a manuscript about growing up in Jonesborough, Tennessee's oldest town, during the 1940s.

Bob lives with his wife in Middle Tennessee near Winchester where his home waters are the Duck and Elk rivers.
