Richard Rodger

I am an urban historian – so I am interested in why, where and when towns and cities developed and what factors determined their distinctive character. These themes are central to my prize-winning book, The Transformation of Edinburgh: Land Property and Trust (Cambridge University Press) and other publications. I was Series Editor of 35 books "Historical Urban Studies" (Ashgate Publishing), Editor of the journal Urban History (CUP) for many number of years, and currently Emeritus Professor of Economic and Social History at Edinburgh University and Visiting Professor of Urban History at Leicester University. When not researching and writing about cities I enjoy walking long distance paths, photography, golf, and keeping in touch with friends, family, and former students.
