James Wetzel

James Wetzel is a professor of philosophy at Villanova University and holder of the Augustinian Endowed Chair. He is broadly interested in the late antique transmission of Platonism (Augustine and Plotinus figure heavily) and in the implications of that tradition for philosophical conceptions of body, soul, spirit. He also has modernist interests in Cartesianism and its peculiar construction of God and postmodern interests in the eclipse of the res cogitans (the thinking subject). More simply, his focus has been on the persistence of spirit in an imperfect world.
