Prior to his recent retirement, Richard Fernow worked for almost 35 years as a research physicist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York. He worked there on a wide variety of subjects including particle physics experiments, calculations of magnetic fields, ideas for laser acceleration of particles and new power sources, and simulations of potential muon colliders. He received his B.S. degree from Ohio University in 1969 and his PhD in physics from Syracuse University in 1973. Before joining Brookhaven, he worked as a postdoc at the University of Michigan and worked on polarized proton scattering experiments and polarized target technology.
