Physician-Scientist. Emeritus Chair Dept Infectious Diseases, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Former Eudowood Professor Pediatrics, Director Division Infectious Diseases, the Johns Hopkins University School Medicine and Johns Hopkins Hospital; Professor Pediatrics U. Tennessee and U. Louisville; Captain, U S Army. Three children: Carla Hunt, BS, MS, teacher and editorial aide, Dr Chris Hughes, transplant surgeon, U. Pittsburgh & Startzl Inst; Dr Greg Hughes, Clinical Psychologist, U. Memphis. Began creative writing after retirement. Interest in mid-South history and culture. Much of his career was spent in the early growth and development of St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Current project is research and writing history of “Mud Island”, an island in Mississippi River where Hughes Resides.
