Howard Hughes

Howard Hughes writes about film, history and music. Between 2004 and 2014 he wrote the 'Filmgoers' Guide' book series - ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE ITALIAN WEST, CRIME WAVE, STAGECOACH TO TOMBSTONE, OUTER LIMITS and WHEN EAGLES DARED.

He is a contributor to the English language edition of THE ADVENTURES OF BUD SPENCER & TERENCE HILL written by Philippe Lombard and published by Pulse Books in 2026.

Howard is also one of the co-authors of Taschen's official 007 book THE JAMES BOND ARCHIVES (2012-2021) including the NO TIME TO DIE edition in 2021, and a contributor to Taschen's THE CHARLIE CHAPLIN ARCHIVES (2015).

His other books include CINEMA ITALIANO: THE COMPLETE GUIDE FROM CLASSICS TO CULT, THE KAMERA GUIDE TO SPAGHETTI WESTERNS, THE AMERICAN INDIAN WARS, MARIO BAVA: DESTINATION TERROR and AIM FOR THE HEART: THE FILMS OF CLINT EASTWOOD.

Visual essays include 'Hell on Wheels' for Studiocanal's THE HELLBENDERS and 'Yojimbo, Django and Yakuza Wolf' for Eureka's YAKUZA WOLF 1&2.

Howard has written for a variety of film-related publications and websites. His work has been published by I.B.Tauris (now Bloomsbury), Taschen, Pulse Books, Oldcastle Books, Kamera Books, Arrow Video, Blue Underground, Treasured Films, the BFI, Eureka! Entertainment and Studiocanal. For many years he was a regular writer on the film magazine Cinema Retro.
