Paul B. Thompson

Paul B. Thompson (born 1958) is a freelance writer, novelist, and occasional screenwriter. He has published thirty books to date, many of which are novels set in the Dragonlance fictional universe. A number of these books are co-authored with Tonya C. Cook. Two of these novels, DARKNESS & LIGHT and RIVERWIND THE PLAINSMAN made the New York Times bestseller list.

Paul grew up in North Carolina, and was influenced by Greek mythology, The Arabian Nights, and writers such as L. Sprague de Camp, Alfred Bester, and Cordwainer Smith. His greatest influence has been history, as he believes no fiction can match the glory, the terror, the brave insanity of real life.

His earliest writing efforts were magazine articles and historical novels. In 1986 he turned to fantasy and science fiction, publishing his first novel, SUNDIPPER, with St. Martin's Press in 1987. He also began collaborating with Tonya Cook at that time.

From 1990 to 1994 he published Forbidden Lines, a semi-pro magazine of science fiction, horror, and speculative fiction. By the 21st century he was back writing non-fiction for online publication. Three of his teleplays appeared on Sony's 3Net cable network and The American Heroes Channel.

FIANCHETTO is his first novel in several years, though it is based on ideas going back to his high school days.
