David R. Hunter

Dr. David Hunter (1945 - ) is a former military helicopter pilot with combat experience in South East Asia and holds a commercial pilot license for both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Although he enjoyed flying, he disliked having people shoot at him, and left the military to return to school. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned a B.S. in psychology. He then worked for over ten years for the US Air Force, where he conducted research on the use of computer-based tests for the selection of pilots, and earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. During that period he also served for two years as an exchange scientist with the UK Royal Air Force. He has served as an advisor for the human factors design of new aviation systems for the US Army. He also served as the Principal Scientist for Human Performance with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he conducted research and managed programs to improve safety among general aviation pilots. Dr. Hunter has over 30 years of experience as an aviation psychologist and is currently an independent consultant in Phoenix, Arizona.
