Anthony Moriarty

Tony Moriarty is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who has a wide range of professional interests. His most recent book, co-authored with Judy Dykstra-Brown, Lessons of a Grief Diary, delves into the aspects of dealing with the death of a loved one seen through the real time experience of an artist and writer. Tony takes a variety of perspectives on this effort, looking at it from the trauma of loss, the death of a man and his struggle to communicate when words no longer suffice and the significance of the path to recovery.

His work experience has seen him become a secondary school principal, an administrator, counselor, teacher, and football coach. As an administrator he has developed innovative ways of enhancing school safety, finding positive solutions to interpersonal conflict, managing student behavior non-punitively and developing programs of positive police involvement in a safe school climate.

His clinical experience as a psychologist includes community mental health, police psychology and private practice. During this time he worked with over a dozen Chicago area police departments assisting in areas of pre-employment assessment, promotional activities and post crisis interventions.

Tony has a broad base of experience and he draws on many of these areas to better understand the complexities of the human experience. He is married and the father of two daughters, each of whom has given him two grandchildren. He has written over thirty articles in the professional literature, written two previous books and a handbook on challenging street gangs. He has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
