Jeffrey R. Orenstein

Orenstein earned his B.A. from Ohio State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, all in political science.

He spent 25 years as a political science professor at a major Midwestern university and retired as a full professor to pursue a career in writing and journalism.

After a decade as the executive editor of a regional magazine, he wrote a self-syndicated travel column that appeared in magazines and newspapers in several states. He also continues to author books about important issues of the day.

In 2023, he was the founder of First Responders for Democracy, a nonprofit promoting American democracy. It is a 501c3 organization. The organization continues and he is on the board and is the President emeritus.

He is active in local government and accepts occasional invitations as an analyst for local TV and newspapers.

He enjoys politics, travel, writing, photography, railroad modeling and good wine. He is a committed proponent of democracy in America.
