Charles B. Nam

I was born in Lynbrook, NY in 1926. After serving in the Army in World War II, I earned a BA from New York University and an MA and PhD from the University of North Carolina. I then served as a social statistician at the Census Bureau in Washington for 11 years and later joined the faculty at Florida State University where I spent 31 years teaching sociology and doing demographic research and writing. Although now officially retired, I continue affiliation with the Center for Demography and Population Health at FSU. My demographic publications include 12 books and nearly 100 articles. At age 80 I published my first novel, The Golden Door, an historical mystery in which relatives of immigrants who died aboard ship in the 1890's try to determine what caused their deaths. In addition to demographic research and writing novels, I am active in teaching genealogical research and assisting others with their family histories. I now reside at Westminster Oaks Retirement Community in Tallahassee, Florida.
