MARVIN RUBINSTEIN

Marvin Rubinstein is a nonagenarian who has worked in many professional fields. He studied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Cornell University and also has a J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School.

He has been on the Board of Directors of several companies. For many years, he was Chairman of the Board of his own corporation, Selectrons, Ltd. Acting as International Sales Manager, he spent time in 49 states and in over 75 countries. He has lived for extended periods in New York City, Carmel (CA), London, Tel Aviv and Bangkok.

He served as an Adjunct Professor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California, teaching a course called “Quixotic English” to Translation and Interpretation students. The course covered many of the overlooked English language areas described in his book, the “21st Century American English Compendium.”

In addition to two engineering books and seven other books on a variety of subjects (including one on humorous aspects of aging, entitled “Old Age Ain’t for Wimps”), Professor Rubinstein has had over 150 papers appearing in technical journals or delivered before professional societies. His articles of a non-technical nature have appeared in the New York Times, The Japan Times and the Village Voice. For three years each, he published a quarterly newsletter dealing with tea entitled “Tea Timers” and another called “The Affable Curmudgeon.”

His wife, Chie Hamaguchi Rubinstein, is a certified professional Translator from Japanese to English. He has three children––a son, formerly an Apple VP and currently on the Board of Amazon.com; another son, a medical Doctor who also does biomedical engineering research at the University of Washington; and a daughter who writes music and is a professional party organizer.

Professor Rubinstein is a member of the New York Bar and has held membership in several technical societies.
