Hi. Thanks for checking in. So, about me—I make stuff up for a living. After college I moved to New York City to write a novel and fell into movie production work. That led to my first screenplay and a move to Hollywood where I had a nice run as a screenwriter. I had deals at Paramount, Warners, Fox and a bunch of indies, and I wrote for some really fine directors, including Ron Shelton, Walter Hill and John Hughes. But nothing got produced, and it really started to crush my spirit.
Then I fell into sports movie production work (I played basketball at Princeton, ugh). I started with White Men Can’t Jump. I’m the guy who finds the players, works them up to speed, choreographs the action and helps the director make sure it all looks good. It’s a cool gig—lots of fun but lots of pressure (especially working for Billy Friedkin on Blue Chips—he directed The Exorcist—ouch, my neck).
But I got to work with some very talented people—Nick Nolte, Whoopi Goldberg, Tommy Lee Jones, Robin Williams, Shaquille O’Neal, Rick Pitino, Bobby Knight (ouch again) and a lot more. My proudest moment was working with Steve Martin on Father of the Bride. On the night we shot the scene where Steve plays one-on-one in the driveway with his daughter (Kimberly Williams) the director was sick as a dog so he turned the reins over to me and I gotta say, it turned out really sweet.
I’m still doing some Hollywood sports work—most lately directing some videogame sequences for EA Sports. But I’ve also kept writing—screenplays, stories, and a couple of non-fiction books, Hollywood Jock and Blood, Sweat and Cheers. Plus I’ve had stuff published in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Salon and ESPN along the way.
Hollywood finally took a toll on my 20-year marriage, but my ex and I produced two terrific sons (my finest achievement) and everything is cool between the four of us.
So here I am, releasing The Pink Moment. I feel like I’m jumping into the deep end, uncharted waters. But then I say hey, in the bigger scheme of things it’s still just a swimming pool, right? So please give Pink a read and let me know what you think. But I should warn you, it’s is not your typical erotic romance. I’ve broken a few rules of the genre. But that’s what rules are for, no?
