Mik Wisniewski

I've written a number of best-selling texts on quantitative analysis and decision making in business and management which you can find available on Amazon.

There are 2 reasons I've written these over the years.

The first reason is that I'm totally passionate about the contribution that analytical methods can make to management, to decision-making and to strategic and operational performance. These methods really work and really help make a difference. As a result I'm keen to help managers to become more aware of such methods, to understand them better and to start using them in their own organisation.

The second reason is that, like many managers, I never used to understand this stuff!

I was never good at maths at high school and hated these subjects at college when I was forced to do them. When I was a student the textbooks available were awful. There were typically written by academic mathematicians and statisticians who had little appreciation of how such analysis fitted into the real business world. And many of the tutors were the same people who could show you 10 different ways of working out the same number but hadn't a clue why I should bother in the first place!

As a result, I told myself that when I had the chance I'd write a textbook that was better and more suited to people with a management background rather than a mathematical one. That was 12 books ago!

I know these methods work because I run my own consultancy company working with the likes of British Energy, British Gas, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, ScottishPower, Shell, the World Bank and many others as well as public sector organisations involved in health care, police services, local authorities.

I've worked in over 15 different countries across Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Far East.

I have degrees from Loughborough University and Birmingham University in the UK and I'm an elected Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and an Elected Fellow of the UK Operational Research Society.

Until recently I was also Senior Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde's Business School.

I live in Scotland.
