Vijay K. Garg is the Cullen Trust for Higher Education Endowed Professor in
the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of
Texas at Austin, where he directs the Parallel and Distributed Systems
Laboratory. He is an IEEE Fellow.
His research spans distributed algorithms, global predicate detection,
distributed debugging, fault tolerance, multicore computing, lattice theory,
and the supervisory control of discrete event systems.
He is the author of Introduction to Lattice Theory with Computer Science
Applications (Wiley, 2015), Concurrent and Distributed Computing in Java
(Wiley, 2004), Elements of Distributed Computing (Wiley, 2002), Principles of
Distributed Systems (Springer, 1996), and Modeling and Control of Logical
Discrete Event Systems (Springer, 1995). His current series, A Systematic
Approach to Algorithms, carries the lattice-linear predicate method through
sequential, parallel, and distributed algorithms.
He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from
the University of California, Berkeley, and his B.Tech. in Computer Science
and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
