SHARON L. STOHRER has worked extensively with performers and public speakers on overcoming performance anxiety. Unlike the authors of most books on this subject, Sharon once suffered from crippling stage fright. Many of the tools she developed in becoming a confident performer are shared in her first PA book, "The Performer's Companion."
Concerned at the rise of conflict and rancor in the world and the increase in depression and anxiety, especially in students, Sharon has studied and tried new approaches. Dealing with vulnerability and shame were added to her toolkit as was the importance of rest and play. The result is her latest book, "The Empowered Performer."
Her first book, "The Singer's Companion" was based on all the mystery surrounding vocal traditions and mores. During graduate school, she kept thinking, "Why doesn't someone write this stuff down?!" So she did.
She has a BM in Vocal Performance from Boston Conservatory, an MALS in Arts from Wesleyan University, and a BA in Music from Kalamazoo College.
Sharon is a voracious reader and enjoys teaching, writing, viewing quirky shows and films, doing water aerobics, and listening to all kinds of music--esp. old time country and blues.
