SKIN AND BONES (Albert Whitman) is a quirky love story set in an Eating Disorders hospital. The main character 'Bones' is a 16-year-old nerdboy with anorexia who falls for Alice--an aspiring ballerina and returning anorexic patient. Will she become his next deadly addiction?

An animated version of bilingual picture book SPICY HOT COLORS/COLORES PICANTES illustrated by Paula Barragan (from Ecuador) appeared on the PBS Program "Meet the Lion." Other bilingual Shahan/Barragan collaborations: COOL CATS COUNTING and FIESTA! A CELEBRATION OF LATINO FESTIVALS (all August House).

ICE ISLAND (Random House, 2013) features teens and their hard-driving sled dogs. Woven into the bone-chilling story is info about the 1925 Serum Run and the history of Alaska's famed 1049-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. ICE ISLAND has been selected for the California Collection 2013 list.

Her adventures include hiking a leech-infested rain forest in Australia, riding horseback in Africa, and bouncing around inside a dog sled during the famed 1049-mile Iditarod Race in Alaska. When not traveling she studies ballet and West Coast Swing.
