Libby Fischer Hellmann left a career in broadcast news in Washington, DC and moved to Chicago a long time ago, where she naturally started writing gritty crime fiction. Then she discovered that history has better plots than anything she could make up. Twenty novels and nearly thirty short stories later, she claims they'll take her out of the Windy City feet first.
Her books span three series: the Georgia Davis PI thrillers; the Ellie Foreman mysteries, about a suburban Chicago video producer who can't stay out of trouble; and her Saga Series of modern historical thrillers, which run from WWII to 1960s Chicago. Her latest is Capital Partners, a standalone financial thriller.
She's been a finalist twice for the Anthony and four times for Foreword Magazine's Book of the Year, and she's been nominated for the Agatha, the Shamus, and the Daphne. She has actually won a few, too: the Chicago Writers Association Book of the Year (2021), the IPPY, Foreword's Indie Awards, and the Readers' Choice Award, several of them more than once.
She's a past president of Sisters in Crime and loves teaching readers and writers how suspense works. She hopes her readers stay up way too late with her books.
