Russ has a very eclectic background that includes time working in several fields before he was bitten by the Information Technology bug. How does somebody go from a military life in the jungles of Central and South America to being a highly educated technologist sitting at a desk all day and then ranching in the evening and weekends?
Since the early 90's, he has focused on Microsoft server products and currently focuses on messaging and collaboration technologies. He earned multiple certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, and Comptia starting back in mid-90's into the 2020's and has continued working as both a trainer and consultant ever since then.
You can find Russ blogging about the life of a geek and how it has its own special challenges at https://russkaufmann.wordpress.com. Chickens, ranch life, using an Instant Pot, and other unusual topics are discussed, including an occasional weird dream.
Russ works with Canine Companions for Independence, https://cci.org, helping to raise puppies for them. He has had multiple puppies go on to become service dogs assisting wheel-chair bound people. If you are looking for a good charity to support, please check them out.
In recent years, Russ has started sharing his firearms knowledge and experience with the world via https://geeyouen.wordpress.com and https://geeyouen.com. He is in discussions with Amazon on publishing a book on handgun safety along with some in-depth discussions around retention and awareness. Keep an eye out for a book that has nothing to do with technology.
When he isn’t in front of a computer or in front of a group of people talking about technology, you can find him with a cigar in one hand and a scotch in the other, and maybe some chickens, horses, cows, llamas, or alpacas running around him in the yard. If you are lucky, you might get to work with him on a gun range at a NRA or Glock event, or attend a class of his in the mountains of Colorado.
