David J. Murrah

Dr. David J. Murrah is a Texas historian who has written or edited twelve books related to Texas history and more than fifty other publications. His most noted works are C.C. Slaughter: Rancher, Banker, Baptist (1981, 2012), Oil, Taxes, and Cats: A History of the DeVitt Family and the Mallet Ranch (1995), “And Are We Yet Alive?” A History of the Northwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church (2009), and The Rise and Fall of the Lazy S Ranch (2021), which won the 2023 West Texas Historical Association’s Rupert Richardson Award for the best book on West Texas history.
