Barry Wills was born in the Lancashire cotton-mill town of Ashton-u-Lyne in 1945. After leaving Leeds University in 1969 he spent 4 years as a metallurgist on the Zambian Copperbelt before returning to UK. After a brief spell at Matthey Refiners near Cambridge he was for 22 years a senior lecturer at the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall and took an active part in the sports activities, including squash, cricket, diving and rugby. He left CSM in 1996 to form the very successful MEI, with his daughter Amanda, and later his son Jon. MEI is well known for its conferences in mineral processing in Cape Town and Falmouth, Cornwall.
In 2014 Barry was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the International Mineral Processing Council for his services to the international mineral processing community.
Barry lives in Falmouth with his wife Barbara, and relaxes by hiking the Cornish coast path, and skiing when possible.
