Julia Chaitin

Julia Chaitin, Ph.D. is an Emerita Senior Lecturer from the School of Social Work at the Sapir College, with expertise in social psychology, qualitative research and peacebuilding. Her research focuses on the psychosocial impacts of the Holocaust and Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the victims and their descendants. Dr. Chaitin has published extensively on these topics. Her latest book (together with Steinberg, Avlagon and Steinberg), Routine emergency: The meaning of life for Israelis living along the Gaza border (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) explores how Israelis, who have been living in an intractable war between Israel and the Hamas for over 20 years, understand their lives, the ideologies of patriotism and Zionism and how they view their Gazan neighbors. Julia is also a peace/social justice activist, who is active in Friendship across Borders (FAB) – a German-Israeli-Palestinian peace group, and Other Voice - an NGO comprised of Jewish-Israelis who live near the Israeli-Gaza Strip border – that works for a non-violent and socially-just end to the Israel-Gaza conflict.
