I was born and raised in New Iberia, Louisiana -- about 18 miles from the Tabasco factory. After completing graduate education at The University of Iowa, I began teaching communications/broadcasting classes -- first at a Louisiana college and then at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Since I retired in 2005, I have been writing (a book and freelance articles), traveling (tracing American Revolution roots along the east coast, Italy, the Bahamas), and volunteering my time and talents (tutoring first grade readers at an inner city school, transporting veterans to/from a local VA hospital, helping establish a statewide non-profit radio network, reading for the blind, and donating blood whenever I can).
I enjoy writing AND reading, especially non-fiction history, biographies, and memoirs. Some of my favorite authors are David McCullough, Mitch Albom, and Doris Kearns.
http://petermayeux.tateauthor.com offers a more complete profile of my background. The website describes how and why my latest book, DEAR MR. MUSEMECHE, was written. The site also offers a recent radio interview I did, and reader and newspaper reviews and comments on the book.
