Shane Hegarty

Shane Hegarty is the author of the bestselling series 'Darkmouth' (HarperCollins), 'Boot' (Hachette Children's), 'The Shop of Impossible Ice-Creams' (Hachette Children's) and, most recently, his first picture book with illustrator Ben Mantle 'Dexter Lost His Boo-Woo' (Hachette Children's).

'Darkmouth' was nominated for the Waterstones Prize and An Post Irish Book of the Year and is being adapted for film by Alcon Entertainment (Blade Runner 2049, The Expanse).

'Boot' was nominated for the Sainsbury's Children's Book Prize and the An Post Irish Book of the Year, as well as being the UNESCO City of Literature Dublin CityWide Read 2020.

'The Shop of Impossible Ice-Creams' has won at the Leeds Book Awards 2023 and Book Awards St Helens in 2024.

'Dexter Lost His Boo-Woo' is published in Germany as 'Monster Vermisst' and in Finland as 'Missä on Pöö-Pöö'.

His books have been translated into over 20 languages. His popular live events have included Edinburgh Book Festival, International Literature Festival Dublin, Hay On Wye Literary Festival, and the Marburger Lesefest in Germany.

Shane lives on the east coast of Ireland with his wife, four children, but no pets due to an unfortunate incident with the family goldfish.
