James R. Harris

James R. Harris is Professor of Modern European History at the University of Leeds, UK. He is the author of The Great Urals: Regionalism and the Evolution of the Soviet System (1999), co-author (with Sarah Davies) of Stalin's World: Dictating the Soviet Order (2015) and author of The Great Fear: Stalin's Terror of the 1930s (2016). He co-edited (with Sarah Davies) Stalin: A New History (2005), edited Anatomy of Terror: Political Violence under Stalin (2013), and co-edited (with Lara Douds and Peter Whitewood) a collection of essays on the evolution of the Soviet state after 1917 called The Fate of the Revolution: Illiberal Liberation, 1917-1941. He is also writing books on the rise of Stalin, and Soviet foreign intelligence during the Cold War. When he's not staring at his computer or teaching, he's usually on his allotment tending his fruit and veg.
