Uri Milstein

Dr. Uri Milstein researches the principles of military philosophy and war as means of understanding the behavior of individuals and their civilization. As writer and historian he is neither timid nor deterred by controversy. His provocative studies and books about the Israeli War of Independence, the Yom Kippur War and the Israeli Paratroopers have earned much praise and condemnation in Israel and abroad. Today he is dedicated to new paradigms of security for Israel. Dr. Milstein is no arm chair academic in such matters. He was the official historian of the IDF Paratrooper Force during his own service, from when he was nineteen until shortly after the Yom Kippur War in 1974.

The national poet of Israel, Rachel the poetess was his mother's aunt. On him one of her famous poem was written, and he published a comprehensive biography on her. He lectures today in the university center of Ariel and is considered an excellent lecturer.

ד"ר אורי מילשטיין (נולד ב-29 בפברואר 1940) הוא היסטוריון ותאורטיקן צבאי ישראלי שפיתח את הפילוסופיה של השרידות והעוסק בעיקר בהיסטוריה של מלחמות ישראל.

פרסם ספרים עשרות שבהם עסק בהיסטוריה של הצנחנים במלחמת העצמאות ועוד. בין ספריו הבולטים: סדרת הספרים תולדות מלחמת העצמאות והביוגרפיה "תיק רבין: איך תפח המיתוס" (1995) "תיק רבין - מיתוס ושברו" (2005) ו"דרך רבין ומורשתו" בשני כרכים (2010).

ב-1991 פרסם בעברית ובאנגלית את הספר "תורת הביטחון הכללית - עקרון השרידות".

בשנות ה-60 פרסם ספר שירה, שחלק משיריו הופיעו שוב בספרו "קץ-החיים", ושירתו העכשווית מופיעה בפורום השירה שייסד, בו הוא מעורב בדיאלוג שירי.

בשנת 2007 זכה בפרס ז'בוטינסקי לספרות ולמחקר על ספרו "עלילת דם בדיר יאסין".
