Tim Hale

Tim graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in Zoology and went straight into the City on graduation! He holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. After a few years with Standard Chartered in Hong Kong working in corporate banking, he moved into the investment world, spending almost a decade at Chase Asset Management (now JP Morgan Asset Management) in London, Hong Kong and New York.

Seeing the difficulties that many investors faced trying to invest sensibly, he set up Albion Strategic Consulting in 2001 and wrote Smarter Investing to provide investors with a framework to help improve their chances of experiencing a successful investment experience. At first it felt like a lonely place, but over the years, acceptance of a passive/systematic approach to investing has grown dramatically into the dominant force that it is today.

Smarter Investing was first published in 2006 by FT Prentice Hall, and the fourth edition came out in August 2023. In 2017 he contributed to the New Book of Investing Rules published by Harriman House.

Tim lives with his family in Exeter, where he and the Albion team are based, and is a keen supporter of the Exeter Chiefs rugby team.
