Ruth Riddell
"The search for my dream has never been easy but I know it's waiting for me. I know I can be whatever I choose to be"
Born in Denver, Ruth Riddell has spent most of her life in Colorado, though she did attend high school and junior college in California.
When asked when she knew she wanted to be a writer, she said, "It was always a dream but I didn't come from a literary family. Books were never a part of my childhood experience and when it came time to think about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, my parents encouraged me to choose something practical. I did, but I never gave up the search or the dream."
Ruth Riddell wrote her first novel when she was fourteen. Her second was completed soon after her two sons were in school. In 1972 she wrote FACE OFF AT CENTER ICE. It was published a year later. In 1978 and 1979, Avalon Books published two of Ruth Riddell's books, ORCHIDS FOR HILLARY and SUMMER OF PEARLS (written under the pen name Shannon Sayer). RED HOT WHEELS was published in 1980. Then in 1987 Atheneum accepted a book called HAUNTED JOURNEY for publication. SHADOW WITCH followed in 1989 and ICE WARRIOR was released in 1992.
