For over 25 years I have been practicing, teaching and researching the sustainable management of the historic environment. Critically my work spans multiple scales from the macro level of national or regional strategies for heritage protection and tourism management to micro level investigations into the conservation of materials and buildings. Working as a consultant to national and regional governments and with organisation such as UNESCO in the Middle East and globally on urban and archaeological heritage sites, including World Heritage Sites, provides me with good insight into current practices and challenges in the heritage management field. This experience in practice informs and directs my research and publications.
