Gary Kleiman

Gary Kleiman (1953-present) was born in Inglewood, Ca., to two very typical immigrant blue collar post war parents, living the American track home dream. Before community college graduation caps had barely hit the ground, Gary was on his way east, to the true west, Colorado. Here, he rustled cattle, dovetailed furniture, and lept high in both ballet and jazz companies. The 1989 (2nd) great San Francisco earthquake beckoned Gary back to California, so back he came, where he continued his woodworking, making art, and then in 1999 opened BookBeat, an indie bookstore/cafe/music venue. Gary's children were born in 1997 and 2001. The three of them now contently live not too far north of the golden gate bridge.
