Jonathan Allday

Jonathan Allday was born in Liverpool in 1960. Having read Physics at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, he returned to Liverpool University for a PhD in particle physics while teaching part time. Working with a group of physicists and teachers, Jonathan helped design a new optional syllabus for 16+ physics that included particle physics and cosmology. This turned out to be very influential and subsequently most post 16 UK syllabuses now include an element of either particle physics or cosmology. Jonathan's first book, Quark Leptons and the Big Bang (now in 3rd edition) was a result of his experiences writing material for this syllabus. It has been in continuous print for over 25 years.

His other books have grown from a desire to try and explain some of the profound areas of physics in a manner accessible to interested amateurs with school level mathematics. He has written articles for Physics Review magazine and has been an editor of Physics Education.

Writing a great Science Fiction novel still eludes him, as so far he has not had any good ideas...

Jonathan currently lives in Worcestershire with his wife and runs an educational consulting company, Apogee Academia. One out of three children studied Physics at Bristol University, which he reckons is not a bad strike rate...All of them can do sport, which he can't but his wife could (very well).
