Susan D. Rose

Susan D. Rose is Charles A. Dana Professor of Sociology and Director of the Community Studies Center at Dickinson College (Ph.D. Cornell 1984). She is author of Challenging Global Gender Violence: The Global Clothesline Project (2013), co-author of Exporting the American Gospel: Global Christian Fundamentalism that analyzes the impact of U.S. religious movements in the U.S., Guatemala, the Philippines,South Korea,and Africa; and author of Keeping Them Out of the Hands of Satan: Evangelical Schooling in America. Her work in the sociology of religion, gender, violence, education, and immigration has been translated into 5 languages. She has produced a number of documentary films, including "An Argentine Mosaic: Destino Patagonia;" "Clothesline;" and "The Lost Ones: Long Journey Home." Committed to diversity education, she has been involved in creating innovative Mosaic projects that link the global and the local, focusing on the bridging of local, transnational, and global communities. She is a recipient of numerous teaching awards, including the Michael Harrington Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Poverty Forum and the SSSP, and has appeared on "The Best of Our Knowledge."
