Ian Hunter

IAN HUNTER is an emeritus professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Queensland. He is an intellectual historian who has published various studies in the history of philosophical, political, legal, and theological thought. He is well known as an exponent and defender of contextual historiography and for treating thinking as a concrete social activity. His first major work of this kind was Rival Enlightenments, published with Cambridge University Press in 2001. His most recent work is The Kantian Religion, a pathbreaking historicization of Kantian philosophy published by Princeton University Press in 2026.
