Carol Strickland's "Impressionism: A Legacy of Light," was released as an interactive, enhanced eBook from Erudition Digital.
Throughout years of writing on art, Strickland's motive has been to democratize the subject, to remove the impediments of fear and snobbery while educating and entertaining her readers.
She has a doctorate from the University of Michigan and contributes feature stories on visual art to Art in America magazine. Her stories on culture have appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Art and Antiques, MOMUS, and Private Journey magazine. She is the author of the best-selling "The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern," which will appear in an updated 3rd edition in January 2018 under the title "The Annotated Mona Lisa: A Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to the Present."
Strickland writes a monthly column on art and politics for Substack as carolartbeat.
Her book on architecture, "The Annotated Arch: A Crash Course in the History of Architecture," sold out its first edition and has been reprinted by Echo Point Books. Other books are "The Illustrated Timeline of Western Literature," "The Illustrated Timeline of Western Art," and monographs on the artists Paul Waldman, Daisy Craddock, and Aris Kalaizis. Strickland's screenplays for feature films have won prizes in prestigious script competitions.
Her historical novel (an enhanced eBook) set in 6th-century Constantinople called "The Eagle and the Swan" is available for kindle and iPad and as a print paperback from Echo Point Books.
Carol has homes in Massachusetts and New York. Her Bluesky posts appear on her account @carolartbeat.
Her motive for writing a historical novel was to give a voice to the most maligned--and arguably the most significant--figure in the history of the late Roman Empire, Empress Theodora. As steamy as it is true and richly imagined, the novel has been described as "Sex and the City meets I, Claudius."
Her new historical novel, "Sparks Fly Up: The Lost Story of Margaret Fuller," comes out as an eBook and paperback in January 2026.
