Mark Beyer

Welcome, crime thriller fans. I am one of YOU. I love a fast-paced, suspenseful crime thriller as much as anyone. That's why I wrote one! In many ways, Hired Man is an homage to so many great authors in the genre; Elmore Leonard, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Michael Connolly, James Lee Burke, Robert Crais, Craig Johnson ... and that's just to name a few of my faves. There are so many more.

They say a writer should write what he or she knows about, so Hired Man is set in Michigan (my home state) and is cast with characters, both good and bad, that I can relate to either directly or without much of a stretch. I don't know a lot about police procedure so the book has very little in the way of cops. I do know a lot about guns and disguises and Detroit and Ann Arbor and Grosse Pointe, so there's a lot of all of that in there.

Most of all, I wanted to write a book that provided a satisfying tale to crime thriller readers like you. If the reviews are to be believed (and I believe them!) it would seem that Hired Man succeeds. An unexpected plus is that readers almost without exception say "you can't put it down" and that "it's a real page turner" which was never my intent ... but is a happy and welcome surprise.

As for me, I've enjoyed a great career (so far) as an advertising copywriter, creative director and video producer. I've lived in the Detroit area most of my life. Met my wife in the ad biz and we've raised two fine sons together. She is my best and harshest critic and I value her smarts enormously. I'm the person I want to be when I am with her.

I hope you enjoy Hired Man! And if you do, please let me know via an Amazon review or GoodReads review! Thank you. - Mark
