David Wyatt

I have been teaching American literature for over forty years, at the University of Virginia, Princeton, and since 1987, at the University of Maryland, College Park. During that time I have published eight books, the most recent being "Hemingway, Style, and the Art of Emotion." My interests range widely--I have written about Toni Morrison, John Steinbeck, Bruce Springsteen, Hisaye Yamamoto, and John Galsworthy, among many others. Two of my books deal with the literature and history of my home state of California. My memoir, "And the War Came," tells the story of how one family and group of friends lived through the fall of 2001. I continue to write and teach about the lived experience of reading--of how it feels to move through a poem or a novel--and I am currently at work on editing a book for Cambridge about the literature of the 1960s.
