J.D. McClatchy

J. D. McClatchy was born in Pennsylvania in 1945. He began teaching at Yale thirty years later and is now Porfessor of English there, where he also directs the creative writing program and edits the university's prestigious journal, The Yale Review. His first collection of poems appeared in 1981, and he has since published five more, most recently Mercury Dressing (Knopf, 2009). He has also written three books of prose, and edited dozens of other books. For the opera house, he has translated several famous operas and written thirteen new libretti; his work is perfomed by the world's leading opera companies.
