Chris is fascinated by the evolution of modern society, and in particular the emergence of the "science fiction world" in which we suddenly find ourselves.
In Waiting for the Summer Rain, a historical novel set in the pivotal years 1969-70, he recounts the events at the Birchgrove Academy, a fictional prep school and microcosm of American society. The school and the nation are uneasily poised between two eras, two models of society. As the school year progresses, tensions rise and the situation starts to spiral out of control.
His SF series, The Wolfe Files, is based on two premises. The first is that artificial intelligence will continue to evolve rapidly and will eventually product self-aware “beings.” The second is that humanity will evolve in unexpected ways as men and women are replaced by – or blend with – machines, making traditional institutions from labor unions to nations obsolete. In writing these books he has tried to extrapolate from current scientific and social trends.
Negative Equity, tentatively scheduled for publication in September, 2026, will deal with the rise of the surveillance state and the increasing polarization of modern society.
