Mark Brinkley, b 1953, is best-known as the author of the Housebuilder's Bible, a project he has been working on since 1993. Prior to that he worked as a builder and developer, and the book is based around his experiences and observations. He has also written for many journals over the years, principally Homebuilding & Renovating.
He went to Trinity College, Cambridge in the 1970s band then threw himself into a number of alternative projects, setting up a wholefood co-operative and also starting Strawberry Fair. In 1980 he carried out an eco-renovation on his first house, and then went on to work on a number of building projects, learning about the trades and materials on the job. In 1992, he built a new house in the Cambridgeshire countryside for his growing family and this project gave him the impetus to start analysing and writing about the building process. The first edition of the Housebuilder's Bible was published in 1994 and he has spent the past thirty years refining, updating and improving the book.
He lives in Cambridge and completed another new house in 2018, working to a design by Mole Architects. He also runs Ovolo Books, which produces other building titles for a UK audience.
