Harold L. Taylor

Harold Taylor is a best-selling author, speaker, trainer, and time management expert. He has dedicated the past 40 years of his life to studying, training, and writing about time management. His philosophy is simple; planning is the key to effectiveness. But as we soar into this new digital age planning becomes much more problematic. We are multitasking more than ever, ADHD diagnoses are on the rise, sleep deprivation is becoming the norm, and the latest technologies are impacting our lives like never before. There are no longer distinctions between our working lives and our private lives. As technology develops so does our connectedness to work. In fact work-time and personal-time are completely blurred. We update our social media status while in the bathroom or on a walk. We respond to email when out for dinner with our family. We work on spreadsheets while waiting for the bus. We are witnessing the end of “personal” time.

So how do we manage our time and our lives in this digital age of speed? Taylor is a pioneer in a new way of thinking about time management. Although difficult to define he calls this new time management holistic time management. In fact he wrote the very first book available on the topic: Slowing Down the Speed of Life. He now feels that time management isn’t about getting more things done, or doing things faster, but rather doing things that are important, meaningful and enjoyable with the time we have available.

But how do we “disconnect”? Or more poignant can we disconnect? As we become more sleep deprived, less focused and more out of control than ever before, as technology rewires our lives and makes old ideas about time management obsolete is there even room for a new time management? Taylor reflects on these questions in his books as well as on his blog – mindsontime.com and through his writings he attempts to define the problem and map out new strategies that can help us function in this digital age of speed.
