As someone who experimented with mind-altering substances back in the day, I've always been fascinated by the tenuous nature of what we call reality. As I like to point out, nobody owns the rights to reality. Yet we go about our daily lives under the spell of this mental construct which is arbitrary and subjective, altering our perceptions as our reality dictates. We cede control of our lives to a view of the world that is part culture, part direct indoctrination and part fantasy. We do, in fact, create our own reality, but this process is largely unconscious. Mostly we accept what we're told by those in authority. It takes courage to look behind the green curtain and confront the all-powerful Wizard of Oz.
