Tamar Frankiel

Tamar Frankiel has been writing professionally for more than four decades. She began as an academic in historical studies, mostly American religious history. About a dozen years later, she began writing about some of the misunderstandings in Jewish tradition concerning women's spirituality. That trajectory led to inspirational articles and books on Jewish mysticism, prayer, and dreams. She also taught historical studies at the Academy for Jewish Religion California, where she became involved in interfaith work, was appointed to the position of Dean of Academic Affairs, and served a few years as President of the seminary.

Tamar and her husband Hershel started their family in northern California, then moved to Los Angeles in 1990, where they raised their 5 children and stayed for 34 years. In 2024 they made aliyah to Israel. Her husband, a Holocaust survivor from a childhood in Poland, passed away in 2025. She continues living in Jerusalem, studying Torah and immersing herself in the life of Israel.
