Steve Schwartz

A professional computer-industry writer and author for more than 40 years, Dr. Steven Schwartz has written more than 70 books on technology, computer, and game topics. In recent years, he has specialized in smart phones, Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products, and FileMaker Pro. He pioneered the game book industry, writing the first trade paperbacks for Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo games, as well as many official, authorized guides for video and computer games. His writing credits include 15 years for Macworld, as well as many other popular publications, such as PC World, Computerworld, and Infoworld.

What’s In a Name?

While fiction authors consistently write under one name, I took a different path and used several variations of my name as author. My earliest game books, such as “COMPUTE!’s Guide to Nintendo Games,” were written as Steven Schwartz. Books written in the middle of my lengthy career were written as Steven A. Schwartz, Steven A. Schwartz, PhD, or just Steve Schwartz, depending on the seriousness of the subject matter. Virtually all of the books that followed, however, have been written as Steve Schwartz.

This has had one unfortunate result. Although I’ve manually added all of my books to this author page, if you find one of my books listed on Amazon and click my name, you may NOT end up on this author page. Instead, you’ll be shown a series of unrelated books with some of my titles scattered throughout the results. Because I wrote under multiple variations of my name, this cannot be fixed.

Tip for Finding My Books On Amazon

A recent experiment has shown that it may be very difficult to find some of my titles on Amazon—even if you search by the exact title. If you’re having trouble, add SCHWARTZ at the end of the search, whether you’re using the exact title or just searching for general subject matter, such as “Microsoft Office Schwartz.”
