In 1981 Laurel Phelan was beset with bloody violent nightmares of dark age Britain. Her life and work disrupted, she sought the help of hypnotherapy and regression. To her dismay, she found herself in the body of a warrior woman named Gwynnefwar in 482AD. Unwilling to deal with the traumatic past life experience, Laurel evaded it for years, until the nightmares returned in 1987. Again, with the help of regression, Laurel found herself in a wedding scene - about to be married to a man named Arturius Aurelianus...and he called her Guinevere.
Having been raised in Montreal, with a history of France rather than England, Laurel new little of the legend of Camelot and King Arthur and so made no connection to the legendary story.
In 1992, with the encouragement of friends, Laurel finally decided to use hypnosis to create a full account of Gwynnefwar/Guinevere's life, as she experienced it, with no outside influence.
Her story is not of a damsel in distress amid knights in shining armor and castles, but rather a real story of a powerful warrior woman raised to be a Celtic Chieftain. Guinevere is a ravishing woman with a fierce determination to protect her people from invaders and create balance within herself as her feminine body rages against the masculine world in a tumultuous, battle ravaged era.
Eventually forced to face the inevitable question of whether her Guinevere was 'the Guinevere' of Camelot fame - Laurel, with the support of British historians, including Sir Geoffrey Ashe, found comfort and healing in telling her truth, even though it differed so completely with the legend and myth.
After her ultimate healing in returning to England and finding her own grave and lands and reunifying with her greatest love, Laurel was asked by Simon and Schuster to write the book. This was the first edition - in 1996.
The New Edition
After years of painstakingly regressing into Guinevere (23 times), Laurel was able to create a much fuller account of Guinevere's intense and drama packed life. This new edition has more than one hundred new pages and has, additionally, the full story of how Laurel came to this experience in 1981 and how it ultimately affected her and led her to her soulmate.
