Alan Birkelbach

Alan Birkelbach, a native Texan, was the 2005 Poet Laureate of Texas. His work has appeared in journals and anthologies such as Grasslands Review, Borderlands, The Langdon Review, and Concho River Review.

His accomplishments include:

• Member of the Texas Institute of Letters

• Winner: Spur Award for Best Western Poem from the Western Writers of America 2015

• Winner: 2001 Pat Stodghill Book Publication Award—No Boundaries

• Winner: 2010 Edwin M. Eakin Memorial Book Publication Award—The Thread

• Winner: 2010 North Texas Book Festival--Translating the Prairie

• Winner: Fellowship Grant from the Writers League of Texas

• Finalist: 2011 The Texas Institute of Letters Children’s poetry book of the year--Smurglets Are Everywhere

• Finalist: International Indie Book Award 2011 and 2015

• Twice selected as a speaker at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas

• Member: Academy of American Poets
