Maureen Tan writes stories about women who deal with dangerous situations and, along the way, discover how strong, brave, and competent they are.

Maureen is a Marine Corps brat, the eldest of eight children, and naturally bossy. Currently, she and her husband of more than 40 years share their very old house with a dog, four cats, two turtles, and a parade of foster animals. They also have three highly tolerant adult children and three absolutely perfect grandchildren.

Much of Maureen’s career has involved explaining science, engineering, and medical research to the public. To keep her life exciting and fuel her fiction, she has also worked as a public affairs officer in tornado- and flood-stricken disaster areas; written the script and gone to Hollywood to direct voice actors for the electronic game, Red Faction II; and taught adults basic math, reading, and English.

Most recently, Maureen released her novel, Too Close to Home, on Kindle. The Kindle edition is an edited and updated version of her 2006 mass-market paperback. Some of the events in Too Close to Home are based on Maureen’s experiences as a member of a canine search-and-rescue team. Maureen and one of her daughters trained two German shepherds for search and rescue work. However, the dogs were not with them when they found the body of a missing man.

Also on Kindle is Maureen's first fantasy-suspense novella, Hair of the Dog. It was inspired by Miss Zoey Princess, a lovely and spoiled little black Shih Tzu, and by the night when Maureen and her daughters glimpsed a fog-shrouded travelling circus from a motel balcony. A Stitch in Time, the second book in the Miss Zoey Princess Suspense Series, will be coming to Kindle soon.

Maureen is the author of three other suspense novels: aka Jane, Run Jane Run, and A Perfect Cover. Maureen's short story, Muddy Pond, is her only story with a male protagonist; it appears in Julie Smith's New Orleans Noir anthology. The re-release of A Perfect Cover will be coming to Kindle in 2017.
