Nancy Heller

Inspired by her father, Jules Heller, who began researching the history of women artists in the 1950s, Nancy G. Heller has always been fascinated by this subject. She has lectured widely and written often about historical and contemporary women, notably in her book, "Women Artists: An Illustrated History." She has also taught related courses at the University of the Arts (Philadelphia), the University of Maryland, and Georgetown University.

Heller's other main area of interest and expertise is Spanish dance--including flamenco, plus Spanish classical, folk, and contemporary choreography. Since 1984 she has been a student, teacher, performer, and writer/lecturer on Spanish dance and its relationship to visual art.

Dr. Heller has received awards from numerous organizations; her goal is to provide accessible, jargon-free writing and lectures that encourage people to feel comfortable around, and interested in, even the most peculiar-seeming forms of avant-garde art and dance.
