John Lasne

I was born on Folly Beach, a small island just off the coast of Charleston, SC, in my grandmother's house. When I was growing up, we enjoyed storytelling around the fire while camping on small islands nearby.

My mother, an English teacher, instilled a love of reading in me. I began my writing career when my children were young, filling pages of a notebook with tales of adventure.

I embarked on a part-time career as a Professional Storyteller and became involved with the non-profit organization Greenville National Partnership. From the beginning, all the stories I told were my own. I was asked to put together a story for the annual Red Ribbon Celebration, a program for drug prevention in the school system. I created The Red Ribbon: a story of hope and told it at the Governor's Mansion in the state capitol.

One thing led to another and National Family Partnership asked if I would be willing to have the story put into book form and I sold it to them for $1 to make it all legal.

The book was printed and won several national and international awards and was in high demand. As such, I embarked on a 2 1/2-year storytelling/book tour around the United States. Two more stories were put into book form during the tour.

Since I began writing again, I have completed four books and intend to continue.
